OPM puts FEGLI calculator online
The Office of Personnel Management added a convenient new tool to its Web site last week: An online calculator that helps answer federal employees' group life insurance program questions.
The calculator allows Federal Employees Group Life Insurance (FEGLI) participants to determine the face value of plans as well as calculate coverage. The tool also allows feds to play around with different FEGLI options and see how choices affect premiums. Different calculations are available for both current and retired federal employees.
The calculations reflect current laws, including recent changes made to the program by last year's Federal Employees Life Insurance Improvement Act (Pub. L. 105-311). However, future changes required by the act are not yet included in the calculations. Additional changes to the program are scheduled to become effective on Apr. 24.
FEGLI is the largest group life insurance program in the world, with over 4 million federal employees and retirees, and many of their family members enrolled.
Additional information on FEGLI is available on OPM's Web site.
