The General Services Administration has updated the per diem rates for regions in six states. The new seasonal rates are valid through the end of September.

The changes will apply to all government travel beginning March 17, according to a Federal Travel Regulation per diem bulletin published last week in the Federal Register.

Rates are adjusted periodically using updated information from the lodging industry, such as data on average daily room rates, as well as information on where agency employees stay when traveling in a particular metropolitan area.

The rate for Monterey, Calif., from March through September is $197, an increase of $8. Travelers heading to Mobile, Ala., will have $143 to spend, up from $109.

Other rate adjustments in effect from March through September are: Jefferson, Texas, at $130; and O'Fallon, Fairview Heights and Collinsville, Ill., at $170.

All rates are published on GSA's domestic per diem Web site.

COMMENTS

  • One thing i've noticed for a long time is that Government and contracts are heavily emphasis on Fair and Resonable (FAR) to their contractors and business owners they are doing business with. Why are not the same standard apply to hotel owners and operators, i.e. paying them the same price as they'd get for selling it to the general public. Why "government rate" constitute much much lower than their published price? If the prices are fair and reasonable then government travelers wouldn't have such a hassle every time asking for a government lodging price.
  • We travel to Chicago and Washington D C frequently and it is impossible to find a room for the per diem rate in these cities. I don't believe using contract hotels will help. Hotels need to offer up a few extra rooms at the per diem rate, or GSA needs to give more dollars for cities, like Washington DC and Chicago.
  • I hope that no one will be traveling to the Denver area in August and maybe before. With the convention going on I don't think that anyone will find a room for the per diem rate. Think about it.
