After years of inattention, information security is now a top agenda item for agencies. In fact, chief information security officers, those in charge of an agency’s network security, now face a long list of programs to complete that are designed to tighten the security of federal networks.
The Bush administration is working on a classified national cybersecurity initiative, and the Office of Management and Budget has initiated other programs such as Einstein (the deployment of intrusion detection systems), the Trusted Internet Connections (a reduction in the number of agencies’ Internet connections), and the Federal Desktop Core Configuration (a set of standard Microsoft software security settings). And there are still more initiatives to come.
Join Allan Holmes, Executive Editor of Government Executive, federal CISOs and security experts to discuss the state of information security in the federal government, how to prioritize the work and how to deal with the obstacles that make completing the initiatives difficult.
Moderated by:
ALLAN HOLMES, Executive Editor, Government Executive
Panelists include:
MARIAN CODY, Chief Information Security Officer, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
