Launched 30 years ago with a primary mission to provide precise navigation and location information to military users, the Global Positioning System has grown into a technology with a wide range of commercial applications and the sale of literally billions of GPS-enabled devices expected over the next five years.

GPS will serve as the core technology of next-generation air traffic control systems while on the ground it serves as the engine driving sales of personal navigation systems expected to hit sales of 100 million a year b y 2011.  Planned improvements in GPS satellites over the next several years promise to provide even more precise and jam proof signals for military users as well as new civil signals for commercial users to insure interoperability with other satellite navigation systems and enhanced signals for transportation safety.

Join Bob Brewin, Government Executive Editor at Large, and a panel of experts as they detail the evolution of the GPS system and then focus on the bright future of a technology that can help federal agencies deliver better services based on precision location, timing and navigation information.
