Government Executive announces the addition of Brian Friel and Shane Harris to its accomplished writers and editors as the magazine continues to build its staff and its commitment to covering key federal management and technology issues.
Brian Friel returns to Government Executive as an associate editor. Friel will write a weekly pay and benefits column on GovExec.com and contribute feature stories on management, human resources, information technology, and other issues. Friel had previously helped launch GovExec.com in 1996 and served as its managing editor, writing more than 1,500 articles and growing the site to more than 1.2 million page views per month during his 4-year tenure. Most recently, Friel was the news editor for PlanetGov.com, where he managed a staff of six full-time reporters.
"Brian's talent and experience in the federal arena will help us cover a wide range of issues that are of intense interest to our readers," said Government Executive editor and president Timothy B. Clark. "We're very lucky to have him back in the fold."
Shane Harris joins Government Executive as an assistant technology editor, where he'll focus on information technology procurement issues. An Oregon native, Harris previously worked as managing/production editor for Movieline magazine in Los Angeles, where he edited columns, monitored copy flow, set up interviews, and worked with publicists. Harris previously worked as a research coordinator and freelance writer for Governing magazine. In addition to writing, Harris performs with a sketch comedy troupe in his spare time.
"Shane will help us sharpen our focus on the technology and procurement issues that are critical to the effective management of the federal government in the 21st century," said Clark.
